A woman was found deceased near her home on Saturday after being reported missing by her husband. A heavy search by ground and air was joined by members of the community. The Bay Times & Record Observer reports the 82-year-old woman left her home in the morning to go on a walk and never returned. Police were dispatched around 2 p.m. to Quinn Road for the missing person report. Multiple law enforcement agencies, K-9 units and first responders contributed the search. She was later found in a ditch on Galena Road in the area of Bramble Way around 8:30 that evening.
Millington Man Charged With Murder
The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office has obtained an arrest warrant charging a Millington man with first-degree murder and related crimes in the death of his stepfather. According to the Evening Enterprise, 48 year old Brian Joseph Sykes has been identified as the suspect. He was apprehended Sunday night, Oct. 13 during a traffic stop in Philadelphia’s Juniata Park section, according to a news release from the QACSO and media reports in the area. The victim in the case is David Teat, 67, of Millington.
New Spot Picked For Community Garden
The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners have approved a lease agreement with Kent Island Community Garden, Inc., allowing the relocation of the garden to county property at 210 White Pine Lane in Stevensville, next to the offices of the Fire Marshal. Since 2015, the Kent Island Community Garden has thrived within the Harborview subdivision on land owned by the Galilee Evangelical Lutheran Church. However, the church has decided to sell the property, putting the garden’s future at risk. In response, the gardening group, led by John McKnight, reached out to the County Commissioners for assistance in finding a new location.
Rock Hall To Hold Municipal Election March 1
The Town of Rock Hall will hold a municipal election on Saturday, March 1, 2025, to elect two Councilmembers. Voting will take place at the St. John’s Catholic Church Hall, 5621 South Main Street, Rock Hall, Maryland between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. There is an ongoing registration until Monday, February 3, 2025, of qualified persons not registered to vote.
Public Input Sought On Climate Action Plan For The Area
The Baltimore Metropolitan Council announces the start of the public input phase for its Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP). This important project is supported by a $1 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The CCAP is a joint effort involving Baltimore City and surrounding counties including Queen Anne’s. The mission is to find effective ways to tackle climate issues, focusing on reducing pollution and improving public health and reducing pollution.

Authorities: Be Aware Of Road Toll Collection Scam
The Queen Anne’s County the Office of the Sheriff advising of another scam unfolding. They say Smishing scammers are sending fake text messages posing as a road toll collection service, claiming you have an outstanding balance and are at risk of a late fee. Authorities say anyone who may have received such a text should delete it and then use the toll’s legitimate website or phone number to confirm you have no outstanding balances. If you have clicked the link and completed the form, you should immediately contact your financial institutions to secure your personal information and accounts, and dispute any unfamiliar charges.
Failed Refrigerator May Have Caused Worton Dollar General Fire
Investigators say a failed refrigerator unit is the suspected cause of a Sunday fire at the Worton Dollar General. Kenty County News reports the blaze at 10838 Worton Road was deemed accidental and caused an estimated loss of $100,000 in structure and $400,000 in contents. No one was injured and it took ten minutes to control with 18 firefighters on-site. The fire began just before 1:30pm.
Child Car Safety Seat Check In Rock Hall
If you have a child that uses a car seat, the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company is holding a car seat check to make sure your child is as safe as possible while riding. Personnel will be at 21500 Rock Hall Avenue between 3pm and 6pm Wednesday to make sure seats are installed correctly and to answer questions from parents about child car safety seats. Advisory Out To Area Hunters About EHD
Residents in Queen Anne’s and Kent counties, and statewide, are being warned by the Department of Natural Resources of an outbreak in Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) in white-tailed deer. Maryland DNR advises hunters that EHD is the likely cause of death for white-tailed deer reported in numerous counties across the state, reports WBOC. EHD is a naturally occurring disease that affects white-tailed deer and, rarely, domestic livestock. The disease poses no threat to humans, according to DNR. EHD is common throughout the eastern United States and outbreaks occur in Maryland annually at differing degrees.
