Golf Tourney To Support Animal Care Shelter For Kent County

They’re htting the links for animals in Chestertown on July 12th when the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County hosts its first Putt for Paws golf tournament. The fundraiser is happening at Chester River Yacht & Country Club, with registration starting at noon and a shotgun start for golfers at 1 p.m. According to the Evening Enterprise, for those interested in relaxed fun off the fairway, an after-party, including bocce, will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Man Charged With Drunk Driving After Traffic Stop

Drunk driving charges face a man pulled over on state Route 213 recently near Dogwood Drive. The Evening Enterprise reports 31 year old Julio Cesar Hernandez, of Elkton was stopped early on the morning of June 21st and was also charged with driving without a license or registration.

Man Facing Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop In Queen Anne’s County

Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff announces the arrest of 35 year old Brandon Trice on drug charges. Earlier this month, a vehicle Trice was riding in was stopped along Flowers Road for failing to stop at a stop sign. An officer saw paraphernalia in plain view A probable cause search was conducted and four wax folds, containing suspected Fentanyl residue, were located and determined to belong to a passenger in the vehicle, Brandon Trice. Trice was arrested and charged, according to the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

Concept Plan Approval For Centreville Mine Expansion

The Queen Anne’s County Planning Commission has granted concept plan approval for a 31-acre expansion of an existing major mining operation in Centreville June 13. According to the Bay Times and Record Observer the applicant, David A. Bramble Inc., has proposed to administratively combine three parcels for a 31.1-acre expansion of an existing major extraction operation just south of Centreville to the northeast of Wye Mills.

Really Great Cats Rescue Is Disbanding

The non profit Really Great Cats Rescue is disbanding. The board, in a recent email to supporters, cited “changes both within and outside of the organization” as the reason, and deemed “the time is right to dissolve.” The Evening Enterprise reports moving forward, according to the June 19 email, the mission of RGCR will be carried out by the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County.

Centreville PD To Get New Computer, Police Vehicle

The Centreville Town Council approved upgrades to aging police department computer equipment and the purchase of a new vehicle recently. The Bay Times and Record Observer reports a review of fiscal year 2024’s budget with Finance Officer Karen Luffman showed the Centreville Police Department was expected to have about $150,000 leftover of the remaining funding, according to Police Chief Robert Hobbs.

Foundation Dollars Help Drive Ambulance Pilot Program

A $372,000 cash infusion from The University of Maryland Chester River Health Foundation is helping to fund a pilot program that provides a dedicated ambulance for the transfer of non-critical patients between hospitals, emergency centers and rehab and skilled nursing facilities on the Eastern Shore. The pilot involves a dedicated ambulance from Butler Medical Transport, stationed at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, reports the Evening Enterprise.

Former Kent County Government Employee Charged With Embezzling Funds

July 24th is the next court date for a former Kent County Government employee accused of conducting a theft scheme. The Evening Enterprise reports 55 year old Barbara Murphy Rhodes of Sudlersville was an employee in the county’s human resources office and between January and August of 2023, allegedly stole about $2,500 from Kent County Government.
A criminal summons was issued on April 16 and Rhodes was served on May 7, according to the state judiciary website.
Her court date is July 24 in the District Court for Kent County. No specific details on how Rhodes engineered the alleged thefts.

Baby and Beauty Contest In Rock Hall

In Rock Hall, the Baby and Beauty Contest will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Civic Center, with a Street Dance immediately following. Parks & Recreation decided to offer pre-registration for both the Baby Contest and Beauty Contest. Pre-registration will be due by June 28, 2024, either by dropping off to the town office or emailing them to bvaughan@rockhallmd.gov . Preregistration is not required, you may still come the day of the event and register.

QAC Cooling Centers Open For Those Who Need Them

With more considerable heat in the forecast, the Queen Anne’s County Cooling Centers will be open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday. They include the Sudlersville Senior Center, the Grasonville Senior Center and the Kent Island Senior Center. Each is open 8am to 4pm.
