Art Grants Deadline Set For March 2nd

March 2nd is the deadline as the Kent Cultural Alliance announces the 2025 Independent Artist Grants program, which will provide $25,000 in funding to support artists living and creating in Kent County. A total of 50 individual grants of $500 each will be awarded as one-time financial support for artists working in a variety of disciplines.
Eligible applicants must reside and actively create work in Kent County.

Thousands of 1099’s Sent To Wrong Addresses

The Maryland Office of the Comptroller has announced a printing error that reportedly led to about 6,000 1099-G forms being sent to incorrect addresses. According to the Comptroller, the issue was identified on February 4 and affected a limited batch of the tax forms. The error did not affect other tax forms, the Comptroller’s Office says, and did not involve any data breach. Officials ask anyone who receives another person’s information to destroy the document.

Public Comments Sought On Propsed Solar Generating Facilty Proposed In Kent County

Local residents and other interested members of the public are again invited to comment on a proposal to construct a 5.0 MW solar generating facility in Kent County. The hearing will take place on
Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 7 p.m. at Galena Elementary School, 114 S.
Main Street in Galena. The solar facility, intended as part of Maryland’s community solar program, would be located on 40 acres of a 199-acre site at 10066 Peacock Corner Road in Millington.

Washington College Hosts All Corps Event

Washington College welcomed over 450 enthusiastic, service-minded Marylanders from across the state for the first All Corps event for the current class of Maryland Corps, Service Year Option, and AmeriCorps Members. Led by Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation (DSCI) Secretary Paul Monteiro, Jr., staff of Washington College and DSCI staff created a unique day of events encompassing workforce development, leadership, and educational opportunity.

Winter Weather Coming To Area

The active winter season continues this week with our next significant winter storm of the season arriving by Tuesday afternoon. WBOC reports *Winter Storm Watches* are up for nearly all of Delmarva for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. A Winter Storm Watch means that there is a moderate level of confidence that significant winter weather is expected within 48 hours. If confidence increases, the Winter Storm Watch will be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning.

Second Man Facing Charges In Kent COunty Home Invasion

A second man charged is charged in connection with a home invasion in Kent County. The second alleged assailant was identified as Joel Patrick Anderson, 48, of Rock Hall.
On Jan. 16, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office served Anderson with a district court arrest warrant charging him with home invasion, conspiracy-home invasion, robbery, armed robbery, burglary, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft, $100 to less than $1,500.
Anderson is being held in the Kent County Detention Center without bond.

New Sculptures Pop Up Around Chestertown

You may spot these in your travles; the latest sculptures from the Peter and Hanna Woicke Collection have been placed in Chestertown. The collection, which has been fully gifted to the town, includes 23 pieces from a variety of acclaimed American and international artists. Super Duty Yellow recently was installed in Gateway Park, which is located near the intersection of state Route 20 and Flatland Road.

Rock Hall Man Charged In Home Invasion

A Rock Hall man charged with home invasion and other crimes. The Evening Enteprise reports the Kent County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 28 served Daniel Wayne Manley, 37, with a circuit court arrest warrant charging him with assault, burglary, armed robbery, robbery, theft, reckless endangerment and possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not cannabis — in addition to home invasion and conspiracy to commit a home invasion. He is being held in the Kent County Detention Center without bond.

Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff says James Hampton is wanted for Violation of Probation on an original charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Per Se.
He is 37 y/o, 6’0. 157lbs., and his last known address was on Roberts Station Road in Church Hill, MD, but he may also be in the Denton, MD area.

New Regional Center Detention Center Would House Queen Anne’s, Kent County Detainees

A proposed new regional detention center to be located at the former Eastern Pre-Release Unit site at 700 Flat Iron Square Road near Church Hill would house detainees from Caroline, Queen Anne’s and Kent counties. But all counties have yet to reach an agreement. The Kent County News reports Queen Anne’s commissioners gave their approval to the Mid-Shore Regional Detention Center Cooperative Service Agreement final draft Jan. 28, as did Kent. Caroline remains uncommitted.
