The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff is scheduled for a site-based assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards. The program requires agencies to comply with standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. As part of the assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments via a public access portal. Man Facing Assault, Other Charges Following Incident In Chestertown
An arrest warrant issued for 40 year old Darryl Edward Cooper Jr. of Worton. He’s charged with first- and second-degree assault; reckless endangerment; and drug and firearm offenses. The offenses are alleged to have occurred June 24 in the 600-block of Washington Avenue, Chestertown.
Queenstown Call Leads To DUI Arrest
36 year old Amanda Woody of Church Hill is charged with DUI of Alcohol and Driving Without a License.
On July 29th, deputies were dispatched to the area of Loverlee Ln, in Queenstown, for a medical call assist for a subject who appeared to be in some type of medical emergency. Upon arrival, Deputies met with the suspect, Amanda Woody, who had pulled into someone’s driveway, exited her vehicle, and appeared to be in distress. While speaking with Woody, DFC Keller detected signs of impairment. Woody was asked to perform Field Sobriety Testing and due to the results of the testing, Woody was placed under arrest and charged accordingly.
QAC Sheriff’s Office Looks For Skimmer Suspect
The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect accused of placing card skimming devices on ATM machines at two Royal Farms locations. According to WBOC, deputies responded to Royal Farms in Queenstown (105 Clay Drive) Friday around 12:45 p.m. for reports of a skimming device being found.
Surveillance footage captured Wednesday reportedly shows the suspect placing the device before leaving in a silver sedan of unknown make or model. An investigation revealed the suspect had placed another skimmer on an ATM at Royal Farms in Queen Anne (32303 Queen Anne Highway) the same day.
Guilty Plea Leads To Maximum Penalty In Deadly Shooting
The maximum sentence doled out for a driver involved in a deadly accident in Queen Anne’s County in April of last year. Yassin Alallaq was 21 at the time, when their vehicle struck the driver side rear of another at 96 miles per hour on Route 301 in the area of Rolling Bridge Road. The other vehicle rolled three times before coming to rest, and the other driver, Barbara South of Queenstown was transported to Shock Trauma Center where she remained in a coma for two weeks before succumbing to her injuries. Alallaq pleaded guilty to criminally negligent manslaughter.
QAC Economic And Tourism Development Visitors Guide Released
The Queen Anne’s County Economic and Tourism Development is out with its 2024 Official Visitors Guide. It contains i nformation on a number of recreational options and features South Island and Cross Island Trail maps, complete with fold out tearable maps. It also includes information on waterways and the best places to launch a boat, and is available in both print and digital.
Historic District Commission Regulations Discussed In Chestertown
Chestertown council member Meghan Efland is calling for a discussion with their Historic District Commission over regulations. The Kent County News reports the Historic District Commission regulations determine what materials and colors can be implemented to maintain the historical authenticity of the neighborhood. Council unanimously decided that although they cannot veto the Historic District Commission’s decisions, nor desire to, they can change the rules and regulations to which they base their decisions.
KCSO Warns About Facebook Message Scams
Kent County Sheriff’s Office has received complaints regarding subjects sending Facebook messages to residents, asking them to provide personal information to apply for a grant through Maryland Health Departments. In many cases, these messages are coming from Facebook friends of the victims, however, these accounts have likely been compromised before sending the message.

Bike Ride To Support Thriving Rivers
On Sunday, September 15, ShoreRivers will host its 20th Ride for Clean Rivers—a chance for cyclists to ride the back roads of Talbot and Queen Anne’s counties in support of the organization’s work for thriving rivers.
Riders of all ages and levels are welcome to register for fully supported Metric Century (62-mile), 35-mile, or 20-mile routes. All routes begin and end at Chesapeake College.
$140,000 In Funding For Kennard Alumni Association
Kennard Alumni Association received $140,000 in funding from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, a program from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This funding will support the hiring of an Executive Director to manage the programs and operation of the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center and Museum.
