A Chestertown pediatrician surrendered his license to practice in Maryland. The Kent County News reports Julio Ramirez, formerly head of his private practice at 6602 Church Hill Road in Chestertown, is being sued by a Kent County woman seeking relief from the court for physical, psychological and emotional injuries she said she incurred while seeking treatment for her child in his office in 2023. Ramirez’s move came ahead of the case being filed in Kent County Circuit Court Tuesday.
Queen Anne’s County Public Schools Raise $16K For American Heart Association
Schools across Queen Anne’s County Public Schools have raised more than $16,000 during recent fundraising efforts for the American Heart Association. Seven schools took part in the efforts including Kent Island Elementary School, Bayside Elementary School, Centreville Elementary School, Grasonville Elementary School, Kennard Elementary School, Centreville Middle School and Sudlersville Middle School.

The Queen Anne’s County Housing Authority Moves HQ
The Queen Anne’s County Housing Authority has relocated its administrative offices. Effective July 22nd, the administrative offices have moved from 205 E Water St STE 100, Centreville, to the Kramer Center, located at 104 Powell Street, Centreville, where the Department of Community Services is housed. Despite the change in location, the phone number (410-758-8634), fax number (410-758-8635), and mailing address (PO Box 280, Centreville, MD 21617) will remain unchanged.
‘Crazy Days’ Coming To Chestertown
Big things happening in Chestertown later this week as the annual summertime sidewalk sales happen downtown. Crazy Days, as it’s know, will return Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 25-27. Shops will open by 10 a.m. each day and have extended hours — closing at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at 5 p.m. Saturday. Local eateries are also offering up specials.
Radcliffe Creek School in Chestertown Seeks Next Leader
Radcliffe Creek School in Chestertown is the only K-8 institution dedicated to educating bright children with learning differences on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Officials there say they are now searching for a new Head of School; the chosen candidate would start on the job July 1st next year. Kent County News reports the School servesa s a critical resource for area families, some of whom send their children across the Chesapeake Bay and state lines to receive the School’s services.
Only three Heads of School have served the private institution since its founding.
Preliminary Hearing Set For QAC Man Charged With Murder
An August 7th preliminary court date is set for a Queen Anne’s County man accused of murdering his father. 32 year old Drew Bernard Meyer of Chester is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
The victim, identified as Wayne Michael Meyer, 65, was the father of Drew Meyer and resided at the same address.
The incident took place on May 17th in the men’s residence. Meyer was identified as the suspect and was picked up a short time later by authorities.
Grant Application For Reuse Of Sudlersville Middle School
New life for the former Sudlersville Middle School marches forward as Queen Anne’s County Commissioners approved Queen Anne’s County Economic and Tourism Development’s application for another Rural Maryland Council Grant for up to $50,000 July 9. The Bay Times and Record Observer reports the grant application through the Rural Maryland Council seeks to fund predevelopment consulting costs up to $50,000 for the adopted reuse of the former school, according to Economic Development Director Heather Tinelli.
Solar Panel Plans Progress
Urban Grid is moving ahead with plans to plant 250 acres of solar panels across three properties on Morgnec Road. The question before the county now is what that site plan will look like. The Kent County News reports the issue of berm placement — an artificial ridge or embankment designed to shield infrastructure from the road — was put before Kent County officials, July 11, during the Kent County Planning Commission public hearing with Urban Grid, the company building it —Morgnec Road Solar LLC.
Kent County Seeking Bids For Chestertown Library Work
The Kent County Public Library is soliciting bids for work to be done on the Chestertown Library, Inc. Building located at 207 Calvert St. Originally constructed in 1906 as the Hearse House, this structure was moved to its current location and gifted to the County government to be managed by the Kent County Public Library in 2002.
The architecture and engineering services as well as the repairs and renovations will be funded through an African American Heritage Preservation Program grant from the Maryland Historical Trust. Bids are due by close of business August 9th.
