With more considerable heat in the forecast, the Queen Anne’s County Cooling Centers will be open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday. They include the Sudlersville Senior Center, the Grasonville Senior Center and the Kent Island Senior Center. Each is open 8am to 4pm.
Holloway-Truxon, Footner Appointed To KCA Board
Vanessa Holloway-Truxon and Margaret Footner have been appointed to Kent Cultural Alliance’s board of directors. According to the Evening Enterprise, each is serving a three-year term beginning July 1. KCA Director John Schratwieser said he was “overcome with gratitude for the commitment” that Holloway-Truxon and Footner have made in joining the board.
Rock Hall Makes Preps For Flat Five
Rock Hall continues preparations for the 41st annual Rock Hall Flat Five happening Thursday, July 4th at 8am. The flat, nearly five mile loop course starts and ends in front of the town municipal buidling on South Main Street. Registration is required to take part and there is a $20 fee. Spectators Turn Out To See Dali Departure
The Dali safely passed beneath the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Monday morning, drawing a crowd of curious spectators, many with binoculars in hand. Tugboats carefully guide the Dali under the bridge with the crushed containers from the Francis Scott Key Bridge collision still on the ship. The Dali’s final destination is the Port of Virginia in Norfolk as it continues its journey along the Chesapeake Bay.
Workshop On Master Plan For Chestertown Historic District
It’s a plan to envision the future of Chestertown’s Historic District and there will be a public workshop about it at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26 at the firehouse on Maple Avenue. The Evening Enterprise reports Main Street Chestertown has been working with local partners on a downtown master plan and at the meeting, group members will be joined by planners, landscape architects and engineers to tell the public more about what they have in mind in terms of infrastructure, streetscape, land use and tourism.
Queen Anne’s County Commissioner Meeting Tuesday
The Queen Anne’s County Commissioner Meeting is set for Tuesday at 5:30 PM. The public is encouraged to attend in person at 107 N Liberty Street in Centreville, and the meetings are also streamed live on our website at www.qac.org/live, on QACTV Facebook and YouTube. Among the agenda items is a public hearing on a bill aimed at establishing the interest to be charged on unpaid property tax in Queen Anne’s County.
Vehicle Thefts Under Investigation In Kent County
The investigation continues in Kent County into the theft of two vehicles and several others being ransacked around Striper Run in the Waterman’s Estates neighborhood of Rock Hall. Initially late last week, a couple reported their 2019 Audi was stolen and during that investigation, the report of a second vehicle theft came in, along with word that a number of vehicles had been broken into. As a result of the ongoing investigation, several juvenile suspects were developed and charges are pending.
Community Door-Knocking Campaign Slated For Chestertown
A communitywide door-knocking campaign designed to engage and listen to the residents of Chestertown will be getting udnerway later this summer.The Evening Enterprise reports the Kent County Local Management Board will conduct the exercise along with the nonprofit Everyday Canvassing beginning in late August and running through October, to ask households about their experiences, concerns and priorities, as part of the Chestertown Children’s Agenda.
Family Fun Day In Centreville
In Centreville Saturday, Tides of Grace is holding a Family Fun Day Saturday. The event runs from 1pm to 3pm complete with plenty of kids’ activities, music, food vendors and more. It takes place at 123 Coursevall Dr. The group will be helping QAC Christmas Angels by collecting NEW toiletry items for the teens; things like deodorant, shampoos, body wash, hairbrushes etc. They’ll have a collection box near the Tides of Grace table. There is no admission charge.
Queen Anne’s County Commission On Aging To Hold Town Hall Meeting
The Queen Anne’s County Commission on Aging has a Town Hall Meeting planned for September 19th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The event will be held at the Grasonville Senior Center, located at 4802 Main Street. Organizers call it an open forum for community members to engage with State and County Officials. By bringing together government representatives and the public, the Commission on Aging seeks to address important issues affecting seniors in Queen Anne’s County.
