QAC Sheriff’s Office Investigates Business Scam

Last week, the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Grasonville business for a report of past theft. The owner of the business advised they received an email appearing to be from a regular vendor requesting a $100,000 payment. Believing it to be legitimate, the funds were sent and discovered to be fraud at a later date. A further look at the request showed that the scammers used the same email as the vendor with one extra letter added. No word on the status of the funds.

Law Enforcement Torch Run On Bay Bridge Tuesday

On Tuesday, June 17, at approximately 10 a.m., the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maryland will be crossing the westbound span of the Bay Bridge. The right and center lanes (buffer lane) will be closed temporarily while runners make their way across the bridge. Minimal traffic delays are expected. Please use caution when traveling the bridge. Invasive Weed Spraying Set For Stevensville Park

Old Love Point Park in Stevensville will have invasive weed spraying of the brush and trees near the property line with Mallard Run community starting June 16 and lasting for approximately one- two weeks. Workers will be working near some athletic fields during the daytime hours. This is weather dependent and will be pushed back if there is rain or windy conditions. Cash Reward Being Offered In Fatal QAC Shooting Earlier This Month

Update on a story we told you about recently. Metro Crime Stoppers Of Maryland is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the death of 19-year-old Christopher Parsley. On Sunday, June 1st, Christopher was shot and killed at 1501 Centreville Road in Queen Anne’s County. All tips submitted through Metro Crime Stoppers are anonymous and eligible for a reward.

‘No Kings’ Day Event In Chestertown Saturday

The Kent County Democratic Central Committee is sponsoring a rally Saturday, June 14 beginning at 1 p.m. in Chestertown’s downtown Fountain Park as part of the “No Kings” nationwide Day of Defiance. The Evening Enterprise reports it is to be a peaceful protest, organizers say, and will reflect “concern about the perceived authoritarian excesses and abuses of power by the current regime,” according to a news release from the Kent County Democratic Central Committee.

Multi Vehicle Crash In Chestertown Thursday

A multi-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian shut down Morgnec Road (Maryland 291) for several hours Thursday morning, June 12. Kent County News reports the crash occurred around 6 a.m. at the Morgnec Road cut-off. A Maryland State Police helicopter responded to the scene, according to a social media update from the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company. Multiple fire companies, Kent County Emergency Services and local law enforcement assisted at the scene. Multiple patients were reported, but no additional details were immediately available.

Two Women Arrested In Connection With Alleged Shoplifting Incidents

Chestertown Police earlier this month responded to Walgreens in the 700-block of Washington Avenue for a reported shoplifting in progress. While en route, Chestertown Police Department officers were made aware that two women were allegedly attempting to take merchandise without paying for it when they were interrupted by store employees. A short time later, CPD officers located the two women inside the Dollar General store in Washington Square shopping center, where they allegedly were attempting to shoplift. Both women were taken into custody. They had outstanding warrants through other law enforcement agencies — Erica Anita Reeves, 39, of Millington on a district court warrant through the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office and Kaitlyn Ann Riley, 19, of Chestertown on two warrants through the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

Floating Solar Array Proposed For Area Of Chestertown

A quiet corner of Chestertown may soon become home to a cutting-edge floating solar array, thanks to a newly approved lease agreement between the town and Third Pillar Solar, a renewable energy company working on a large-scale project atop the town’s wastewater lagoon. The Kent County News reports the site, located off John Hanson Road, already houses the town’s wastewater treatment plant and serves as a popular birding location, with more than 160 species reported. If constructed, the solar array would feature 7 megawatts of floating solar panels anchored to the lagoon and connected to Delmarva Power.

QAC Bag Ban Vote Falls Short

A two to two vote prevented the passing of an ordinance that would ban single use plastic bags in Queen Anne’s County. The Bay Times and Record Observer rports at the May 27 meeting, Commissioners Jim Moran and Phil Dumenil voted in favor of the ban while Commissioner Patrick McLaughlin and Chair Chris Corchiarino voted against. With the absence of Commissioner Jack Wilson, there was no tie-break vote cast. According to county regulations, when votes are taken by a quorum of commissioners, a tie fails to pass.

Centreville Man Facing Charges In Talbot County Domestic Incident

The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office recently investigated a domestic assault, which took place in Easton. Deputies were dispatched to the 25000 block of Royal Oak Road, where they found a victim with visible injuries consistent with an assault. The suspect, identified as Richard Traver Dunkerly Jr., a 27-year-old resident of Centreville had fled the scene before authorities arrived. Dunkerly was located, apprehended and subsequently handed over to Talbot County deputies. He was charged with both first- and second-degree assault.
