A lobbying effort that could create at least one military veterans treatment court on the Eastern Shore continues to gain momentum. The charge is being led by Josh Marks who wrote to the Kent County News and Bay Times Record Observer this summer, stating he is part of a group hoping to establish the court. His initiative was broached in Calvert County in 2022.

Harris Wins First Congressional District Race
Republican Rep. Andy Harris, who has represented Maryland’s First Congressional District since 2010, seeking an eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives won decisively Tuesday with 63% of the vote. His Democratic challenger, Blane Miller, earned 34 %. Joshua O’Brien garnered 3%.

Closures To Know About For Bay Bridge Run
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is partnering with Anne Arundel and Queen Anne’s counties to accommodate the Bay Bridge Run on Sunday, Nov. 10. The run will be held on the eastbound span of the bridge. As a result, the eastbound Bay Bridge will be closed to traffic Sunday, Nov. 10, from approximately 12:01 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting. The MDTA will have two-way traffic operations in place on the westbound span. One lane of traffic will operate in each direction on the westbound span, with the center lane closed to traffic. The center lane may open to traffic intermittently to help reduce westbound delays.
Ribbon Cutting On Veteran’s Day
Queen Anne’s County and Center for the Military and Veteran Family invite you to a special ceremony and ribbon cutting for Veterans Point at Wells Cove on Monday, November 11th at 11:00 AM.
The event will honor those who have served our country and commemorate the opening of a new memorial site. There is limited parking on site. Parking is available under the Kent Narrows Bridge, with shuttle service provided for accessibility.
New Online Permit Application Feature In Queen Anne’s County
The Queen Anne’s County Planning and Zoning Department announces the launch of its new online permit application submission feature as a part of the Citizen Self Service Portal. Citizens and building professionals can register for their own user accounts to start the online submittal and tracking experience right away. Radcliffe Creek School Names New Head
Radcliffe Creek School’s (RCS) Board of Trustees has announced the selection of Dr. Jennifer Durham to serve as its next head of school, beginning July 1, 2025. This appointment follows a months-long nationwide search, which was led by Search Consultant Kirk R. Duncan and the school’s Search Committee, and included engagement and input from members across the Radcliffe Creek community. Chestertown Spy reports since 2018, Durham has served as the director of learning support for grades 7-12 at The Potomac School in McLean, VA
Washington College Professor Receives Two Grants
Washington College Professor Mindy Reynolds of the biology and molecular biology department has been awarded two National Science Foundation (NSF) grants totaling $139,861 to support her undergraduate students’ research on toxic substances and education resources for two-year colleges. Baytobaynews.com reports the grants will fund projects that explore the effects of arsenic and phthalates, as well as develop resources for other educators to incorporate original research into their classrooms.
