In Centreville Saturday, Tides of Grace is holding a Family Fun Day Saturday. The event runs from 1pm to 3pm complete with plenty of kids’ activities, music, food vendors and more. It takes place at 123 Coursevall Dr. The group will be helping QAC Christmas Angels by collecting NEW toiletry items for the teens; things like deodorant, shampoos, body wash, hairbrushes etc. They’ll have a collection box near the Tides of Grace table. There is no admission charge.

The Queen Anne’s County Commission on Aging has a Town Hall Meeting planned for September 19th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The event will be held at the Grasonville Senior Center, located at 4802 Main Street. Organizers call it an open forum for community members to engage with State and County Officials. By bringing together government representatives and the public, the Commission on Aging seeks to address important issues affecting seniors in Queen Anne’s County.

Why does Kent County need a facility to remove iron from the groundwater? It’s an explanation Commission President Ron Fithian is looking for from the Maryland Department of the Environment. MyEasternShoreMD.com reports Fithian wants an answer from the agency before ground is broken on a $4.5 million plant near the Nicholson landfill.

The two Methodist churches on High Street in Chestertown officially will become one worshipping congregation on July 1, when Christ United Methodist at 401 High St. and First United Methodist at 360 High St. will be known as Christ First United Methodist Church, reports the Evening Enterprise. The two congregations have been worshipping together recently under Pastor Herb Cain, who in the summer of 2022 was appointed pastor of both churches. Cain will be leaving at the end of June, to be succeeded by Pastor Amy Yarnall.

The Town of Queenstown is requesting residents assistance regarding a recent occurrence of thefts in town.The Town Commissioners shared their plea on the Queenstown website and the Town of Queenstown Facebook page detailing the incidents. The Bay Times and Record Observer reports on or about June 15, a pole mounted digital speed awareness sign/solar panel assembly was removed from the shoulder of Main Street near the area of 7500 Main Street.

Due to extreme heat this week with a dangerous heat index, the Queen Anne’s County Cooling Centers are available for any community members in need of a cool retreat. The following locations will be open:
Sudlersville Senior Center at 605 Foxxtown Road, Grasonville Senior Center at 4802 Main Street and the Kent Island Senior Center, 891 Love Point Road, Stevensville. Cooling Centers will be open from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

The US 50/301 Ramp Management Pilot Program continues this weekend with an adjustment to the timing of the closures.
These detours will be active from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays, and Labor Day. Duke Street will be closed and blocked at the intersection of Duke Street and Island Plaza Court (AKA Cleet Street). MD 8 (Business Parkway/Romancoke Road, Exit 37) will also be closed. Drivers will continue to have access exiting US 50/301 onto MD 8 and MD 18 but will not have access to enter onto westbound US 50 at these locations.

Follow up to a story we told you about earlier this week; Chesterdown Police say multiple suspects have been identified in the thefts of rainbow Pride flags and other rainbow-themed items over the weekend. Chief Ron Dixon confirms to the Evening Enterprise that all but one of the suspects are adults and are not local. The theft locations included Cross Street, High Street, Greenwood Avenue and Philosophers Terrace. In addition to theft, charges could include a hate crime and malicious destruction of property.

The Town of Chestertown is requesting sealed proposals for a professional landscaping firm to build out approved improvements to Memorial Park in the Town of Chestertown. The Town maintains a set of detailed planting plans and pathway within the park. Kent County Public Schools is offering free meals during the summer for all children 18 and younger. The Evening Enterprise reports no application is required and children do not have to be enrolled in Kent County Public Schools. Meals will be available for pickup Mondays through Thursdays, now through Aug. 8th at Galena Elementary School, HH Garnet Elementary, Rock Hall Elementary and Kent County High School.
