QAC Sheriff Seeks Help ID’ing Break-In Suspects

Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff is looking for the public’s help identifying suspects in connection with a garage break-in in Stevensville. The heist happened at a home on Jib Way and items were taken totalling about $1,000. There are pics of the suspects and what appears to be a Chevy Diesel pick up truck they were in on the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Rock Hall Man Charged After Theft Call

A Rock Hall man was held without bond in the Kent County Detention Center following his arrest. Detectives were called out to the Shore Stop convenience store in Rock Hall for a reported theft. Subsequently, 36 year old Richard Derek Coleman was charged with theft. According to the Evening Enterprise, at the time of his arrest, Coleman was in possession of suspected cocaine and paraphernalia. Coleman also was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not cannabis and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

QAC Cooling Centers At The Ready For Those Who Need Them

Due to ongoing extreme heat and a dangerous heat index, the Queen Anne’s County Cooling Centers are available for any community members in need of a cool retreat until August 30th. The Department of Community Services will be opening their buildings for use by the public with ice and water available. The following locations will be open from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday through Friday, August 20, 2024. They include the Sudlersville Senior Center, Grasonville Senior Center and Kent Island Senior Center.

Centreville Wastewater Treatment Plant Update

As the Centreville wastewater treatment plant plan comes closer to fruition, Annie Richards, Chester Riverkeeper of ShoreRivers, presented Chester River restoration information and sought Centreville Town Council approval recently for a pilot program for strengthening efforts. The Bay Times And Record Observer reports ShoreRivers and others have been engaged in advocacy matters related to Centreville’s ongoing wastewater treatment plant upgrade initiatives.

MD 405 Closure Pushed Two Weeks

The Maryland State Highway Administration will now close the MD 405 (Price Station Road) median crossover at US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) in Queen Anne’s County starting July 29th, pushed back from the original date of July 15th. The move allows highway officials to finalize plans for accommodating emergency vehicles during the closure. The closure, once underway, restricts all movements through the median and will remain in effect until further notice.

Kent County Changes Up Emergency Notification System

Kent County Emergency Management officials announce that they’ve begun using Everbridge Emergency Notification System, which gives emergency management the ability to call thousands of residents within minutes. The system records and sends a message to telephone numbers throughout Kent County within a matter of minutes, be it a water main break, fast-moving fire, approaching storm, or other crisis. You can sign up for Everbridge through a link on the Chestertown Police Department Facebook page.

Recycling Initiative Racking Up Big Numbers In Queen Anne’s County Government

Queen Anne’s County officials say the recent initiative to recycle single-use boat shrinkwrap has resulted in a significant increase in the amount of plastic diverted from landfills. In the second year of the program, Queen Anne’s County Government has seen a 370% increase in the amount of recycled shrinkwrap compared to last year. This year, a total of 12,000 pounds (6 tons) of plastic shrinkwrap was collected and recycled, a substantial increase from the 1.62 tons collected in 2023.

QAC Sheriff’s Office Reminds Of Wedensday Torch Run Closure

The Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff reminds you that Wednesday, at approximately 10 a.m., the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maryland will be crossing the westbound span of the Bay Bridge. The right and center lanes will be temporarily closed while runners make their way across the bridge. Please use caution while traveling.

Power Outage Planned Thursday For QAC YMCA

The Queen Anne’s County Active Aging Center will be closed on Thursday, July 11, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM due to a planned power outage at the Queen Anne’s County YMCA. This outage is weather dependent, with a rain date set for Friday, July 12, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Any updates will be promptly communicated. The Center will reopen on Thursday, July 11, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
