KCSO Warns About Facebook Message Scams

Kent County Sheriff’s Office has received complaints regarding subjects sending Facebook messages to residents, asking them to provide personal information to apply for a grant through Maryland Health Departments. In many cases, these messages are coming from Facebook friends of the victims, however, these accounts have likely been compromised before sending the message.
Please do not provide any personal information, or click any links you receive through Messenger, even if they are from a trusted friend, unless you are expecting them.

Bike Ride To Support Thriving Rivers

On Sunday, September 15, ShoreRivers will host its 20th Ride for Clean Rivers—a chance for cyclists to ride the back roads of Talbot and Queen Anne’s counties in support of the organization’s work for thriving rivers.
Riders of all ages and levels are welcome to register for fully supported Metric Century (62-mile), 35-mile, or 20-mile routes. All routes begin and end at Chesapeake College.

$140,000 In Funding For Kennard Alumni Association

Kennard Alumni Association received $140,000 in funding from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, a program from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This funding will support the hiring of an Executive Director to manage the programs and operation of the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center and Museum.

Watermen On Alert After Boat Vandalized

Watermen are on alert after a boat was vandalized and robbed over the weekend at Kent Narrows Watermen’s Boat Basin. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 25th, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police.
Several electronics were stolen or damaged, windows were broken, and hydraulic lines were severed. The Maryland Natural Resources Police have launched a criminal investigation and are asking anyone with information to come forward. They can be contacted at 410-260-8888.

Teen Suspected In QAC Break Ins Caught In Easton

The Easton Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in a manhunt that spanned multiple Maryland jurisdictions and drew a large police presence in Wicomico County in May. On May 30th, at about 4:15 a.m., police were called to a car dealership there on reports of a suspicious person driving a truck with Virginia plates in the parking lot. Police pulled the truck over and noticed a broken passenger side window, ammunition, and equipment that appeared to be law enforcement related. The driver, Donya Jenkins-Patterson, was arrested and later charged. 18 year old Tyler Hill fled but was caught this week. Hill and his alleged accomplice were also connected to earlier vehicle break-ins in Queen Anne’s County.

Queen Anne’s Board Of Education Approves Two Of Six Recommended Books

In Centreville, progressive issues including immigration and racism for optional reading units became a topic of discussion as the Queen Anne’s Board of Education approved two out of six recommended books by the Materials of Instruction Committee July 17. The Bay Times & Record Observer reports teachers looked at gender gap data and test scores and noted a lack of literary protagonists for Hispanic and bi-racial male students to relate to.

QAC Sheriff’s Office Seeks Info On 22 Year-Old Homicide

Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff is appealing to the public for information related to unsolved homicide.
In August 1992, Herman “Dolly” Callahan was tragically murdered in his home along Route 404 in Queen Anne. Shot at close range with a shotgun, it is believed his killer was someone known to him. The murder weapon has never been found, and the case remains open. It is firmly believed that there are individuals with knowledge pertinent to the murder of Mr. Callahan who have yet to come forward. If you have information regarding this case please contact Sgt. Closed Door Council Session In Rock Hall Monday

On Monday, the Rock Hall Mayor and Council will meet in closed session to discuss the appointment, employment, assignment, promotion, discipline, compensation, removal, resignation, or performance evaluation of appointees, employee, or officials over whom the municipality has jurisdiction. The Closed Session will occur during the Mayor & Council Workshop Meeting which will be held at 6:00 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church Hall, 5621 South Main Street, Rock Hall.

Opioid Stats Locally For 2023

Chestertown, Church Hill and Queenstown each saw two opiod deaths, of the nine reported in Queen Anne’s County last year. There had been none in any of those locations the year prior. Numbers are still down slightly from the single season high for opioid deaths in 2021 with 12 and 10 preceded that in 2020.

Woman Facing Charges After Welfare Check

Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff announcing the arrest of 37 year old Ashley M. Lefevre. She was found nodding off in a vehicle along Main Street and Watermans Ct. in Grasonville with her car still in drive. When police arrived to check on her, they determined she was impaired. She now faces a slew of charges including pot possession, DWI, Negligent Driving, and Reckless Driving. Lefevre was arrested and later taken to the District Court Commissioner.
